Out of a total of 60 hitpoints I had 5 left. 2 of the 3 monsters were targeting me with their attacks and one of them happened to be the boss of the level. I had 1 mana left and 2 cards in hand but neither were enough to save me from what was coming. As soon as we hit end turn, it was all over.
My friend played 2 attack cards taking out the first monster. There was a slight relief but the boss still stood with his sights set. My friend asked if I had anything left that I could do. It didn’t mean anything to the outcome of the battle but I played my last attack card and knocked off a total of 7 damage from the now half health boss. My other card could have boosted my defenses enough to survive the attack but I didn’t have enough mana to play it. We both sat there as my friend tried to decide what to do next. I was out of cards and we were out of luck.
That was until I saw him play a card that dealt a little bit of damage and let him draw another card from his deck. This wasn't a normal card from his paladin deck, but at the last shop he’d purchased a relic that gave him a card from one of the other class decks.
What could he have gotten? There was a little glimmer of hope.
He played his newly drawn card, giving him back 2 mana. From there he played another attack card weakening the boss just a little more and then dropped his final card. Our last hope. And with it he triggered the smite he’d been building. And just like that the boss had fallen. And this was the moment I fell in love with the rogue-like deck builder called Into the Dungeon.
If you’re a fan of rogue-likes then I highly recommend checking this game out. It doesn’t give you unlockable and customization features the more you play like most other rogue-likes do. But it does give you the chance to experience this genre with friends. And for me, that was enough to rocket this game up to my favorite rogue-like. I still wouldn’t consider it the best rogue-like out there. but it’s my favorite. Also note that you can still experience all this game has to offer playing singleplayer. So you don't need multiplayer for it. But it does make the experience better in my honest opinion. Steam Page https://store.steampowered.com/app/2497910/Into_the_Dungeon/
